What is a Friar?

A friar is another type of monk. though they are not held in the same class as traditional monks which is middle. They tend to be in the mendicant . They go out into the world to preach the Catholic faith. They get their meals from begging and offer a sermon as payment. Speaking of payment they would collect tithes or offerings from those that wanted to confess their sins. This occupation showed the lack of religious education among the people and the want of it. If friars were of modern day they would be seen as missionaries going out among others preaching their gospel without purse or script.
